Mashed Potato is probabaly my favourite food ever, my nan makes the best ever mashed potato and I remember as a kid when she looked after me, if she was cooking it for dinner she’d keep a bowl aside for me to eat as a snack :) Still to this day it’s what I request from her, even requesting it instead of a Christmas gift one year! Thats how much I love it!
So over the years since i’ve been out of home I’ve been trying to perfect my own mashed potato. Mine is no where near as good as my nans but I’m getting pretty darn close.
Here are a few of my tips to getting perfect, or near perfect mash (by my standards)
- When boiling the potatoes add a little bit of salt to the water, I don’t know why this works…it just does
- Make sure your potatoes are super soft when their boiled, seriously makes all the difference….however if you like your mash more lumpy then don’t worry so much about this
- Use BUTTER! It’s an indulgence anyway, enjoy those calories!
- Full Fat milk is best, skim does work though. However best tip I ever learnt is to heat up your milk (I just microwave it) It seriously makes all the difference and you get the most creamy mash :)
- Lastly, season… it’s so important!!!
These are probabaly obvious things, but it’s what i’ve learnt over the years. I am a Domestic Goddess In Training :)
